Sentinel has been working with Florida-based Zing Drone Solutions since the beginning of the year and helped them win their first contract for Z SCAN drone detection system at two corrections facilities in Oregon. The Z SCAN is a low-cost but highly effective drone detection and tracking sensor used at prisons to prevent the delivery of contraband to inmates.
One of the most useful features of Z SCAN is the user interface. The watch team has no persistent duty to tend to the Z SCAN once installed. The interface is setup on a computer screen and show a map of the facility with a data section that contains any drone information. Once a drone is detected, the alert banner flashes and an audible alert notifies the watch that there is a drone in range. The position and type of drone is displayed. The system also will locate the drone pilot so he/she can be intercepted and apprehended.
Within days of installation at these two facilities the systems were detecting drones in the area. One watch Supervisor commented “surprising range detection using the Z SCAN. My watch officers now know what’s out there so we can monitor drone activity around our facility. This is a great tool for us that doesn’t add to our workload”.
